The LifeSize Video
Center is an appliance to record and/or stream a video conferencing meeting
LIVE to all others who are not in the meeting.
The LifeSize Video Center is a 1U rack
mount appliance with 2 Intel Xeon processors and two 1TB hard disks at RAID
1 configuration.
It can record and/or stream a few point-to-point
and multipoint video conference sessions together in 720p30 HD video
resolution. The recorded sessions
can be used for on-demand playback whenever required.
The LifeSize Video Center will work
with a LifeSize video conferencing system which acts as an
streaming encoder at the event venue. The LifeSize video conferencing system will
transcode the video and audio captured into 720p30/480p30/360p30 IP
packages and send the packages to LifeSize Video Center for recording and
streaming in flash format.
All the LifeSize video conferencing
systems have the LIVE streaming encoder capability built-in. Thanks to the powerful processors used
and ample memory of the LifeSize video conferencing codec. This approach eliminates the requirement
of an external streaming encoder connected back-to-back with the video
conferencing codec.
To start a LIVE streaming and/or
recording, users just press the blue button on the remote control unit of
the LifeSize video conferencing system.
This can be done while the LifeSize video conferencing system is in
a point-to-point or multipoint video conferencing calls,
or not in a video conferencing call at all.
The LifeSize video conferencing system
will then send a stream to the LifeSize Video Center for recording and/or
LIVE streaming to all other users.
The LifeSize Video Center is able to
record 20 sessions in 720p30 HD resolution concurrently and stored these
720p30 HD resolution recordings up to 2,600 hours. While recording, users can stream the
sessions LIVE in 720p30 HD resolution as well; up to 1,000 viewers can be
supported. Alternatively, the
recorded sessions can be used for on-demand playback and up to 350 viewers
can playback the recorded videos in 720p30 HD resolution. If the 720p30 HD resolution is required,
the LifeSize Video Center
can support a lot more storage and LIVE/on-demand viewers.
The proposed LifeSize Video Center
supports the following capacity:
1.
storage of recording:
- 2,600hrs in 720p30 HD resolution
- 5,200hrs in 480p30 resolution
- 7,800hrs in 360p30 resolution
2.
concurrent recordings:
- 20 sessions in 720p30 HD resolution
- 40 sessions in 480p30 resolution
- more than 50 sessions in 360p30
resolution
3.
LIVE viewers:
- 1000 for 720p30 HD resolution stream
- 2000 for 480p30 resolution stream

- 350 for 720p30 HD resolution stream
- 400 for 480p30 resolution stream

At the receiving ends, streaming
viewers can use either Windows-based, Linux-based or Mac computers with web
browsers (e.g. IE 7, Firefox 3.5, Chrome 1.2 or later) to receive the
streams. All videos will be playback
by flash player.

portal page of LifeSize Video Center.
Upon successful logon to the LifeSize
Video Center,
viewers will arrive at the LifeSize
Video Center
portal page (see below) and they can select the LIVE streams or recorded
videos.

viewers will then be able to see the LIVE streams or recorded videos.

Viewers can also click on a button at
the bottom right hand corner of the video window to enlarge the video
window full screen.
